Thank you to my state colleagues, dedicated staff, Thank you to my state colleagues, dedicated staff, and local advocates who played a crucial role in helping me get many bills signed into law through the Senate in 2025. I am grateful for such a successful freshman year in the State Senate and look forward to achieving even more policy victories during the 2026 Legislative Session.

“Baskin’s 10 bills signed into law included “Desha’s Law,” a law requiring schools across the state to create cardiac emergency response procedures in their existing safety and preparedness plans. It was inspired by the death of Baskin’s cousin, Desha Sanders, 12, a player on the Hoover Middle School modified basketball team who experienced heart complications and collapsed during practice and died on Jan. 7, 2009.

Baskin-sponsored bills that are now law included a proposal allowing parents to freeze the credit of their children under the age of 18; repeal a prohibition on organ transplant candidates from listing on multiple transplant programs in the state; and continue the authority of the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation to regulate the catching of oysters, their size limits, open and closed seasons and possession limits.

“As 2025 comes to a close, I am proud to represent and sponsor legislation that will benefit not only District 63 constituents but residents across the state,” Baskin said in a statement.”

Thank you to my colleagues on the @nysbltaskforce Thank you to my colleagues on the @nysbltaskforce (Black Legislative Taskforce) for hearing the needs of Buffalo-based nonprofits during the statewide listening tour this fall. I deeply appreciate the hard work of our taskforce’s honorable members and our Chair, Assembly Member @chanteljackson79 , for securing $30 million in the state budget for nonprofits across New York that are dedicated to serving marginalized communities. Thank you as well to all the Buffalo-based leaders who came out to advocate for your organizations. Together, we will ensure that New York State makes strong, targeted investments in the grassroots organizations that support our most vulnerable populations.

Holiday shopping around Senate District 63 continu Holiday shopping around Senate District 63 continues. This week I visited Parkside Ave. in North Buffalo and picked up tasty treats at Fairy Cakes Cupcakery & Bake Shop and added another book to the kids’ library from Alice, Ever After Books. The holiday spirit ended with a trip and proclamation presentation to the renowned O’Connells for their recognition by the New York Times as one of the 50 best clothing stores in America. District 63 is a wonderful mix of fashion, food, gifts, and family-run businesses. #Shoplocal

So many small shops were shining bright with creativity, warmth, and heart. I am so grateful for the local businesses that bring such life to our community! Throughout the evening I was able to enjoy classy gifts at Tara Gift Shoppe, a delicious fish fry at the Irish Center, and pick up a few sweet treats at Ko-Ed Candies.

The new Bills stadium will soon transition from an The new Bills stadium will soon transition from an Erie County asset to an asset of New York State. As a state senator, I have a responsibility to ensure that community inclusivity and opportunities for the public at large remain central throughout the implementation of the Community Benefits Agreement (CBA).

In 2021, I began advocating for a CBA to be incorporated into the new stadium lease deal. Despite the challenges posed by a non-disclosure agreement during the CBA negotiation process which limited participation from the general public as well as members of the county and state legislature, I worked with community organizations and hosted community meetings to navigate a framework for a CBA proposal. This effort resulted in a document that secured a legally binding investment commitment toward improving quality of life for people throughout our region.

In 2023, the construction and lease deal for the new stadium was approved, with the CBA included as a subsection of the contract. We are a few months away from the opening of our new Buffalo Bills stadium. While I am excited about the prospect of a new, state-of-the-art experience to watch our beloved hometown team play, I am even more committed to ensuring that the Bills administration implements the CBA to a superior standard, not something subpar.

Our Buffalo Bills victories are worth fighting for both on and off the field!
