I supported our state’s A+ teachers at the NYSUT Policy Breakfast, participated in the Working Families Party Legislative Agenda Briefing, met with leaders of Say Yes Niagara Falls to discuss how the state Legislature can support their key work with students back home, and stood with my colleagues in solidarity with the people of Minnesota. Every week in Albany, I continue my steadfast commitment to working to make district 63 the best in the state!

The lawmakers said the issue has become even more critical because of the federal government’s “aggressive and unjust immigration enforcement tactics.”

Thank you to my colleagues in government, Senator Thank you to my colleagues in government, Senator Robert Jackson and Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, for sponsoring the “Solutions Not Suspensions Act.” I support this bill because it promotes statewide disciplinary reforms that reduce long-term suspensions, address inequities, and prioritize interventions that keep students engaged in learning in the classroom, not left at home as punishment.

We cannot allow a confusing infrastructure design to send the message that one wrong turn could put someone at risk of detention, interrogation, or deportation. Fixing this design is a matter of public safety and is essential to maintaining trust in Buffalo as a place where people feel safe to live, work, and invest,” Baskin added.

First I met with local economic development leaders, working to build strong partnerships with The Business Council of New York as the new Chair of the Senate Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee. I am grateful for the leadership and collaboration of President Heather Mulligan and VP Ken Pokalsky.

From the Million Dollar Staircase, I spoke about parole justice advocacy - fighting to hold people accountable while still leaving room for rehabilitation, growth, and hope - and called for expanding the Language Access Law so immigrant New Yorkers receive the same clear information from their government. Progress happens when policy, partnership, and people come together.

The Erie County MWBE Disparity Study was funded with $1 million in public funds nearly four years ago. The outcomes of this report will help shape the current list and needs of marginalized business owners in our region, who will in turn help inform local and state policies that can open new opportunities for this population. We have all been waiting and want to see the MWBE Disparity Study released now.

I’m excited to invite you and your family to the u I’m excited to invite you and your family to the upcoming premiere of the documentary, Diamonds in the Rust, at Shea’s Performing Arts Center on February 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are free on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/diamonds-in-the-rust-film-premiere-tickets-1980410472033?aff=oddtdtcreator

During my time as a County Legislator, I launched the Level Up Initiative to ensure MWBE and SDVOB businesses had access to contracts and relationships with local corporations. The experiences and stories that emerged from that work helped shape this film. Diamonds in the Rust reflects not only the creative process, but the journey, challenges, and resilience behind it. We look forward to sharing this milestone and presenting the film with the community.

Now, as your State Senator, I remain committed to advocating for underrepresented businesses not only in my district, but across New York State by amplifying their voices, supporting their growth, and advancing policies that foster equity and long-term success. His legacy reminds us that courageous leadership grounded in compassion can confront injustice and inspire lasting change. Now more than ever, the world needs leaders who share Dr. King’s clarity, courage, and moral vision. Decades later, his words remain profoundly relevant. As we reflect on his life and sacrifice, we are reminded that the work he championed is unfinished, calling for continued and collective action to bring his vision of justice and equality closer to reality.
